About Jane Bain Chapter, NSDAR
The Jane Bain Chapter, Inc., NSDAR, is a Stark County, Ohio chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR).
To promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism, the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890 by Eugenia Washington, Mary Desha, Ellen Hardin Walworth, and Mary Smith Lockwood. Since then, more than one million women have become Daughters!
What We Do
Historic Preservation: Jane Bain Chapter, NSDAR, has endorsed NSDAR Historical Preservation Grants submitted by Marlboro Historical Society (The Dr. Kersey Thomas House) and Alliance Area Preservation Society (The Haines House). Approval of these grants has allowed each group to perform restoration work and increase awareness of these Underground Railroad sites.
Education: We support several NSDAR schools and the Christian Waldschmidt Homestead with monetary donations towards their educational efforts. Chapter members are involved with community events including presenting a Constitution Week display, participating in local events, and educating others about American Revolutionary War historical events.
Patriotism: The Serving Area Military (SAM) Centers in Massillon and Canal Fulton have received donations of handmade lap quilts, crocheted hat and scarf sets, books, and monetary donations made by chapter members. Many 50th Anniversary Vietnam Commemorative pins were presented to our veterans. Wreaths were placed at Fort Laurens in Bolivar, Ohio. Beginning in 2020, to honor our veterans, we have encouraged community sponsorship for Wreaths Across America, each year increasing the number of wreaths placed. The chapter has an ongoing effort with Alliance City Cemetery and other veteran groups to work towards a more complete list of veteran graves.
The Jane Bain Chapter, NSDAR, of Alliance, Ohio includes members from Alliance and the surrounding communities. Each member has been encouraged to “find their DAR niche.” No matter where the interest lies, whether it be service toward historical preservation, education, patriotism, genealogy, social media, and technology, or the arts, we each have something to offer and share to make great things happen!
Meetings are typically the second Saturday of the months August through May. Contact Us for more information on our Jane Bain Chapter, NSDAR! Contact our Chapter Regent if you are interested in attending a meeting, and our Chapter Registrar for assistance in getting started with your research. We look forward to being DAR together!
